Research Policy and Compliance (RPC) provides leadership in shaping, interpreting and implementing UC and UCLA research-related policies, procedures and guidance. The office operates under the direction of Ann Pollack, Associate Vice Chancellor–Research, and reports to Roger Wakimoto, the Vice Chancellor for Research.

RPC supports the Conflict of Interest Review Committee (CIRC). In addition to convening this faculty-peer review committee, RPC staff provide consultations and engage in other outreach activities relating to conflicts of interest and conflict of commitment regulations, policies and procedures. These interactions include guidance about entrepreneurial activities and proposed engagement with industry.

RPC is responsible for the development and dissemination of campus policy related to cannabis and hemp. Ann Pollack co-chairs the Cannabis Advisory Board (CAB) along with Michael Roth, MD, Professor of Medicine.

RPC serves as the administrative home to the UCLA Export Control Officer. RPC acts as the designated campus resource for interpreting and implementing federal export control regulations and determining when licenses must be requested from the U.S. Departments of Commerce, State, Treasury, and others.

RPC supports Roger Wakimoto in fulfilling his role as campus Research Integrity Officer (RIO) in responding to, investigating, and reporting allegations of research misconduct.
