U.S. Government agencies issue 'restricted party' lists that identify persons, entities, or countries to whom U.S. trade sanctions, embargoes, or other restrictions apply. To reduce the risk of doing business with restricted entities, UCLA performs restricted-party screening (RPS) before entering into relationships with persons, entities, or countries. Visual Compliance is a UC-wide third-party tool that checks all federal lists simultaneously for restrictions. Visual Compliance is used across campus to perform RPS before:

  • Financial transactions (e.g., purchases, travel, reimbursements)
  • Awards or agreements with foreign entities (e.g., research contracts/grants, MOUs)
  • Foreign collaborations (e.g., hosting visitors, visiting scholars and postdocs)
  • International shipments (e.g., physical and digital transfers, MTAs)

Best of all, Visual Compliance is free to UCLA departments! To get started, follow these steps:

  1. Self-register with your UCLA email address
  2. Download VC quick guide
  3. Send questions to export.controls@research.ucla.edu

If you’d like to schedule a training session tailored to your department’s specific RPS needs, email export.controls@research.ucla.edu.
